February Tip: February is American Heart Month. While you’re probably familiar with some of the risk factors for heart disease (smoking, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle) did you know that loneliness can also contribute? Loneliness and social isolation are common sources of chronic stress, which is correlated with a 29% increase in coronary heart disease…just one of the reasons it’s important to maintain positive social connections, both for yourself and your clients. Make time to socialize with family and friends, and get active. As always, if you notice any serious changes in your client’s behavior or mood, be sure to report it to a case manager.
