When Molly K. Miceli, a registered nurse, realized that health care often didn't extend to an individual's home, she decided to make a difference. In 1989, she founded LifeStyle Options, Inc., to provide high quality, reliable home care services that encourage adults to be independent as long as possible and to live at home with dignity, comfort, and security. Today, LifeStyle Options provides hourly and live-in private duty care, as well as Professional Geriatric Care Management , facility staffing and senior housing services. The company services all of Chicago and its suburbs and the Rockford and surrounding areas. "I wanted to be part of a company that people could really count on; a company that offered the most reliable services available," says Molly. "People want safe, secure home care options that help them stay in the environment they prefer; I'm proud to say we continually work to be the absolutely best company to meet those needs."
Making a Difference
"Growing a company is never easy," says Miceli, "but to be able to make a difference in someone's life is a wonderful reward. There are so many stories to tell. For example, almost as soon as we started, we had an experience that reinforced all we were trying to do. We received a referral from a nursing home for companion care for one of their residents. It was a beautiful spring day, so our caregivertook the gentleman outside in his wheelchair. Imagine her consternation when she saw tears running down his cheeks. When asked what was wrong, the man responded, 'Nothing at all. It's just been so long since I've felt the sun on my face.' It turned out that it had been more than two years since he had been outside! Stories like this one are the reason we exist."
Over the years, LifeStyle Options' expertise has extended to include innovative, on-site senior housing services that help communities attract and retain residents, and health care facility staffing as a licensed nurse agency, as well as always offering high quality, reliable hourly and live-in private duty care. "Best of all, the majority of our referrals come from our own caregivers and clients," says Miceli. "To have earned that trust - I can't think of anything more rewarding."
How We Hire our Caring Staff
At LifeStyle Options, our caregivers must first have a real desire to make a difference in the lives of our clients. Our workers then go through an extensive hiring process. Specifically, LifeStyle Options caregivers must:
- Read & speak English clearly
- Screen & pass a predictive test before being interviewed
- Go through an extensive interview process that covers experience, behavior & client situations.
- Provide appropriate IDs for legal work authorization
- Have at least 3 professional references checked
- Be fingerprinted & have a clear Criminal background check
- Have their licensure & certification carefully checked (must be clear)
- Undergo SPA Training
- Pass their orientation and annual training
- Be cleared by DMV (workers who drive clients)
- Pass the Competencies conducted by supervisors, on site, at least every 90 days
- After hire, workers must wear LifeStyle Options' uniform shirt & ID Badges
